A cloudless sky greeted us as we left the marina at Neyland for another of our cetacean surveys off the SW coast of Pembrokeshire. Some risidual swell from the day before awaited us as we left the heads but not enough to spoil the day. Some ten or so miles out we hit the dolphin belt and as usual we encountered pod after pod of Commons a lot of them feeding with the Gannets pointing them out for us. The water strangely was very dark and almost inky in places which made following them through the water very difficult at times especially nearer the boat. The mix was mainly adult and juveniles but we did observe several small calves as well. We also encountered a mysterious large yellow floating piece of equipment, you really never do know what you are going to find out there!
Please also see the previous post of breaching Basking Shark which we encountered on the return leg.
