Whilst undertaking man over board drills on the ILB East of cardigan Island today, our 'man over board' was suddenly approached by 4 breaching Bottlenose Dolphins who appeared side by side and travelling at some pace out of the chop.... almost immediately he had entered the water.
They were extremely interested in him, surfacing very close to him over and over as we made our pass to collect him. Once back aboard we knocked off the engine and they continued to breach around us for 10 minutes or so, sometimes hovering just beneath the surface and watching us..... They looked to be 4 young animals and it really brings home just how big they are to see them breaching next to a person!
