Sea Trust Dolphin
Surveys 2014
Sea Trust will be running a number of boat trips aboard the
Cartlett Lady again in summer 2014. The Cartlett Lady is a
13.5 Ton Lochin Sportfisherman with twin engines and in the capable hands of
skipper and owner Andy, provides an excellent, stable platform for observation.
The primary
aim of these trips is to survey Common Dolphins and other cetaceans found in
Pembrokeshire's waters. They also, however, provide an excellent opportunity to
see and photograph other marine life such as Grey Seals and a wide variety of
sea birds at close quarters. Click here for some
photos from Sea Trust Pelagics in recent years.
This year we will be offering 2 forms of trips, dates are
as follows:
Sundays - 18th May, 8th June, 22nd June, 13th July, 27th July,
10th August, 17th August, 31st August, 7th September and 28th September.
These
trips are full day trips and will run
from 10am-5/6pm and are £80 per person.
Thursday
evenings - 29th May,
3rd July, 17th July, 14th August, 21st August and 28th August.
These trips
will run from 2pm-7pm on nice Thursday evenings during the summer and will head
out around the islands at a cost of £50 per person.
Each trip
has spaces for 10 people - first come, first served.
As
a volunteer based community interest company, our financial resources are
limited and we depend largely on public donations to carry out this work. The
Cartlett lady currently costs £800 per day to charter. We make no profit on the
sale of tickets; it merely allows us to place two volunteers on each trip to
carry out the surveys. For a donation of £80 per person you can join us
for a full day on the Cartlett Lady and enjoy stunning views of dolphins and
sea birds. These are wild animals and there are no guarantees but our success
rate has been more than 95% over the past 9 years!
This is real sustainable Eco tourism
– our marine wildlife needs you! If you do wish to support Sea Trust and join
us on one of our surveys please get in touch for more info.
All trips
start at Neyland Marina, meeting by the cafe half an hour before departure.
After motoring up Milford Haven we will visit such places as The Bristol
Channel, the Celtic Deep, Grassholm and The Smalls Lighthouse as well as Skomer
and Skokholm. No two trips are the same and exactly which area is visited and
the species seen will depend on weather and sea conditions on the day. Dolphins
are wild animals and sightings cannot be guaranteed but our success rate has
been 95% over the past ten years! Arrival back at Neyland Marina is usually
between 5:00p.m. & 6:00p.m. There is a toilet on board and hot drinks will
be provided. Bring a packed lunch, warm clothing and suncream.
