Blast from the past.

Yesterday 14/11/14

12 years ago 16th November 2002.

Almost exactly twelve years ago I was watching Risso's at Strumble. This was my attempt at recording them with not particularly brilliant sketches. I have lots of records like this in dairy's and field notebooks going back to the 1980's.

But I had no computer only a word processor and so probably a few more records are lost on defunct floppy discs. Either way we have plenty of evidence to suggest that The Strumble Head tidal systems regularly attract Risso's as well as the ubiquitous porpoises and have done for the past 25 years and more.

There has been an absolute revolution in technology that we almost take for granted.
The image at the top was made with a camera we just purchased for £320. An idiot proof "bridge" camera with a 50x stabalised zoom. Equipment like this, small and portable  The Risso's were hardly visible to the naked eye probably a mile away.

Having downloaded the images onto my computer i can further enlarge them and actually discern scars etc by which we may be able to identify them.We have come a long way since 2002! (Still enjoy reading through my old dairy's though!)
