A Week on Skomer

I am just back from a week on Skomer. Porpoise every day from both Skomer Head and the Garland Stone. Common dolphin seen twice but unfortunately not by me. My wildlife high point was finding a convolvulus hawk moth..........an enormous beast!!

A brilliant week and as I was enjoying a final cup of tea overlooking North Valley as the sun was setting on my last night a pod of 40 - 50 common dolphin put on a display in a very calm St Brides Bay. They must have been 1 1/2 to 2 miles away but were feeding and breaching for at least 1/2 hour. Not to be outdone 2 short eared owls came out to hunt looking spectacular as the late evening sun illuminated them with a pinkish redish hue.
