Late entry.
The year is moving on and so we enter October which can be a very productive time at Strumble. The winter birds start to move in, we see migrating birds passing and of course we hopefully get to see more Rissos Dolphin. It also starts to turn colder so it's time to break out the fleece lined trousers and hand warmers. I arrived for the last hour of the rising tide and things were really quiet so I suspect I had missed the action earlier. It was well into the slack water period just as the first fingers of the ebb tide were pushing west that I saw my first fin as the gannets started to wheel around following the arriving porpoise. They were quite far out but there were around eight to ten feeding over a 6-700mtr stretch to the north. As the tide increased they were pushing further west and by the time I had to leave they were just about out of camera range. There was some good bird action and for those of you who may be interested the Chough are gathering this time of year and I had 27 feeding all around the lookout which was a pleasant distraction despite the noise they make. Other sightings were two Peregrine falcons (1M-1F) two Red Throated Divers, 1 Great Northern Diver and 59 Scoter. I had one marked porpoise with a scarred fin which I think is a returning animal.
