Strumble Diary 11-09-2021 (Rissos in the Race)

It was down to my favourite new spot again today this time with Fran on a brief sortie to show her the lay of the land. Before leaving she had a quick scan around and spotted the tell tale large fin of some Rissos out in the forming tide race. She left to go back to the lookout and I set up my gear. It was a group of ten or so with at least two very young calves. As with the two sighted yesterday they were just holding in the tide race expending very little energy moving slowly forward at times before dropping back to the same position. This went on for a good 45mins until the race built up strength and pushed them out to the NW.

Time then for the porpoise to come in to feed. Several animals observed, one being marked with a nick out of the front of the dorsal fin. They fed vigorously for an hour or so before they too moved off no doubt and hopefully with full bellies.
