It's nice to see this lovely weather after all those weeks of chilled easterly winds but for me and many wildlife photographers it can be a curse, especially if you're shooting over open sea/ground at distant subjects with the ever present heat haze distorting your images. The last two outings to Strumble have proved almost pointless from my standpoint, as all my images were badly affected by heat haze to the point of being unuseable and void of any useable detail, so I've tried a few breakwater sessions instead. That too hasn't been easy. Yesterday I saw dolphins off the end of the breakwater but by the time I got there they had gone. Today I decided I'd go out anyway and chance an encounter.
Things were right tide wise as the tide was topping and just starting to ebb. I sat for an hour and saw nothing and then a sighting of a fin approaching from the NE. That was it. Never saw it again. Another hour passed and at last a good sighting, or so I thought as again another Bottlenose came in from the NW this time and surfaced three times before turning around and moving off. Another hour later I was all packed up and putting the gear away in the car when I spotted a swirl out some 200mtrs or so. Camera back out of the bag and a rush to get some images. This one stayed for all of nine minutes before it too turned tail and headed out to the NW.
So only a few images today amid lots of frustration. I have lots of pacience though and always the thought that tommorow is another day and another chance will come my way. I did see four lovely little Turnstones though seemingly heat exhausted on the blocks. They didn't move the whole time I was there, even when I was walking around and taking pics of them.
