A day of mixed fortunes on yesterday's Pelagic on the Cartlett Lady. An hour or so out we came upon a small group of Common Dolphins despite rougher than expected conditions. We then had to return to Neyland as one of the passengers was ill. Setting off again around 1:30 p.m. we made rapid progress far out to sea with the sea state improving considerably. Several large groups of Auks, Manx Shearwaters, Gulls and Gannets were encountered surface feeding but not the hoped for Minke or Fin Whales. We did, however, eventually find a decent number of Common Dolphins which joined the boat to ride in the bow wave much to the delight of all aboard. A Great Skua put in an appearance as did a brief Storm Petrel and a group of 6 or so "Commic" Terns. A slower trundle back to Neyland in very pleasant, sunny conditions and with a group of 6 or so Common Dolphins just outside the Haven was an excellent end to the day.
Many thanks to Cliff for the organisation and to skipper Andy for a safe trip.
