First vist to Strumble for a while as was tied up with family visits etc. The first thing I noticed even before I arrived was the sheer numbers of birds out off the peninsular. Eight very large flock feeds over a very wide area and I'd estimate around 3,000 birds including those in between the flocks as well. One would disperse and another would pop up. I'm guessing large shoals of baitfish being pushed up by Mackerel possibly. On the cetacean front things were fairly quiet at first and as usual on the flood tide when the sightings did start the porpoise were quite distant. This is the way it stayed for the whole of my session with no close sightings at all. I had twelve or so sightings in total and as the tide faded so did the porpoise so just about an hour before high water I packed up and headed back to Goodwick.
I had checked the breakwater for Bottlenose before leaving for Strumble and no joy. On my return I went on to the breakwater and no sightings then either. I'll be surprised if there's any fish left in the bay as they've been hitting it hard now for a few weeks. Hopefully they're just giving it a rest and will be back in a few days time.
