Strumble Diary 06/10/2025

Storm "Amy" has passed, and the lookout, crowded with birders over the weekend was back to normal again save for a single local birder when I arrived. The outer tide race was in full flow and I soon spotted several Common Dolphin moving East to West inside it. They halted, turned and started feeding, no doubt having come accross a shoal of fish. That and several smaller pods were showing for most of the next hour or so darting in all directions in chase of prey. As the Monday survey team arrived they were still feeding off the lighthouse with a few still out in the tide race. Shortly before leaving I spotted what looked like a tight group of five Porpoise in the big swells but couldn't be 100% sure. They didn't surface again so I couldn't call it for the survey record. I ended my session shortly before midday and left the survey team to their watch.
