Bottles arrive up North!

Recent wildlife sightings from National Coastwatch Institution station at Porthdinllaen, Gwynedd.

After a very quiet start to the year the first bottlenose dolphins were seen on 21/3/12, at about 11.30 with 2 animals around 200mts west of Trwyn Porth Dinllaen.

On 27/3/12 at 12.30 - 2 porpoise were seen passing close to the headland then at 14.30 a

group of 6 bottlenose were seen a little further offshore.

I've also attached 2 photos taken recently by one of our watchkeepers. We think picture 2 shows a full size barrel jellyfish but picture 1 is less clear. My instinct tells me it's an otter, if it is it's the first one we are aware of in the area. If anyone has any thoughts on this please get in touch, we'd like to know for sure.

Regards.

Hi Martin,
yes I am certain you are right on both counts, very nice and many thanks for your report.
Next we expect a picture of a leatherback turtle eating the barrel jellyfish!
