An early start today to catch the top of the tide. A very frustrating hour passed with few and very distant sightings but all the harder to spot in the calmer slightly choppy conditions. You would think they would be easier to spot in the calmer conditions but they don't need to break the surface so much to breath which makes them have a lower profile to the water. My spotter (Cliff) arrived and was soon guiding me onto a few decent sightings. Two eyes better than one it would seem. All still quite distant though and as we came toward the end of the session I remarked at how there had been very few in close today. Just at that moment a group of about six socialising porps started playing reasonably close in giving us a lovely memory of a splendid if not trying day to take away with us.
