Strumble Diary 28/04/2018

A morning session proved fruitless as I was a bit behind the tide and only spoptted two way off to the west. Nothing for it but to call it off and look toward the flood tide later in the day.  So it was to the late afternoon and with a chill N wind but good sunny conditions that I headed back. Slow at first but as the race formed several porps moved in but in the choppy waters they were playing hard to get. The spring tides were very powerful today and that usually keeps the numbers down.  The action died away quickly so I spent an hour or so just looking at blue seas and as I was thinking of leaving Cliff turned up. After a short spell of chatting and catching up we started to spot porpoise in the distant race. A second wave moving in and for over an hour we watched them darting around feeding well and generally enjoying the swells. The bonus of that extra action was the capture on camera of a marked animal as shown below and yet another for the Fin ID Project. You never know what you're going to see at Strumble and a late sighting in the session was a young swan gracefully passing by.
