Strumble Diary 03/06/2018

After a lovely week away on the North York Moors where astonishingly we met a woman from Goodwick it's back to good old Pembrokeshire and my first outing to Strumble in what seems a long while. So while Cliff and some of the gang were out on the Cartlet Lady off the west coast I was watching over the dropping tide in the warm June sunshine. Lots of action as I arrived with a high number of porps out in the developing tide race. Almost as far as I could see from right in front of the lookout, to Mackerel Point and way out to the west groups of porpoise were feeding well. At a guess I'd say 50+ but hard to tell. The highlight of the afternoon was the sighting of  Denty one of our more frequent and marked porpoise with a calf in tow (image 10 of 19) which by it's size is no more than a few weeks old and is in the image just before Denty. Another mother calf combination showed up and this calf was at most only a day or so old but could have been just hours old it was so small and can be seen in images 11-18. You never know what will pass Strumble when you're sea watching and today just before leaving this beautiful old two master rounded the lighthouse on it's way into Fishguard and I just had to get a shot of it for you all to see. Enjoy. It's nice to be back.
