After a fantastic day out surveying with Andy on Sunday aboard the Cartlett Lady, we motored down to Neyland my mood a little subdued by the thick fog that closed in, as we headed towards Neyland Marina. On arrival my spirits rose as I tucked into an excellent bacon roll and mug of tea at the cafe as the fog appeared to be lifting. Soon our companions for the trip arrived and we boarded the Cartlett Lady. The haven was flat calm and the wind turbines stationary, all was looking good as we made our way down the Haven.
My mood dipped again as we plunged into more fog just as we approached the "Heads" with visibility down to about 50 metres. When people are paying £80 for a day which allows us to do the surveys, you feel a responsibility to give them a good time and motoring through thick fog is a bit of a dampener.
I could sense the unease of our crew-mates but thankfully after about twenty minutes en route to our first destination the Gannet Colony, we broke out of the fog revealing Skokholm bathed in glorious sunshine!

Soon after we were approaching Grassholm, for several of our guests it was the first of  a day long feast of the senses although the smell of about 100,000  gannets  as we approached the island might not be to everyone;s taste!
Nick o' Sullivan who was fishing the "Hats and Barrels"on the "Celtic Wildcat" gave us a call to let us know that there was a few Commons and a pod of Risso's in the vicinity

Nick o' Sullivan's "Celtic Wildcat".

Nice one Nick! I had been in two minds as to which route to take and this bit of news  proved this choice to be a good call.  All we had to do now was find them. No problem there due to Andy's incredible eyesight and then the day really took off ! I am not going to try and compete with Kens superb images , over to you Ken!
