Strumble Diary 20-21/10/2020

A short text on the 20th before I move on to the 21st.   The wind was well into gale force from the WNW raising twenty to thirty foot swells a mile or so out but even in close at 15-20ft they were impressive. The porpoise were there and I spotted a dozen or so but taking an image of them was a different question. Only fin tips showing mostly and single breaths meant no chance of any pics. I did take some of the seas though to give you a taste of what it was like. The still image below of the 20+ ft swells is lost a bit due to the compression effect of the long lens but I can assure you they were massive. The video is of 15+ft swells breaking over Mackerel point at low tide.

Now for today the 21st Oct

A much calmer affair with a light southerly wind. As the tide dropped and the race formed a distant but very recognisable porpoise made a showing. It was Denty our most re-sighted porpoise within the ID project. As the time moved on more porpoise came in with several good showings close in. The months are moving on now and it's noticable how early the light drops away in the afternoon especially if there's cloud cover. Soon we'll only have a 4-5hour window in the day that will provide good light, but we will be there hopefully bringing you all the comings and goings of our fave little cetaceans and anything else of interest. So keep safe and keep watching..
