A cloudy but dry morning with a moderate southerly wind but good visibility greeted us when we arrived at Strumble today. Joined by Seatrust Supporter John Rees from Cardigan who is more used to joining us on our Cartlet Lady boat surveys it was nice to be able to show him what Strumble is all about. He had visisted by himself a few times and not seen anything but we certainly put that right as we spotted a pod of around twenty common dolphin right off the bat. Although distant we were able to track them for a good thirty minutes as the moved east.
It was on to the porpoise a little while later with at first a single then a few more as the tide rose. Gradualy more and more came into feed and at sessions end Lloyd and the volunteers had recorded 40+ animals with many more sightings over the two hour session that they did. As the tide race died away so did the porpoise so we finished our session around 13.45 and returned to the Ocean Lab for a warming coffee and a good old chat.
Myself, John and the Thursday crew.
