Cartlet Lady Trip 13/6/21 Con't

So it looks like Richard in the previous post had more luck yesterday with other species than we had on Sunday but it just goes to show how lucky we are to have such abundance off the coast of Pembrokeshire.

Now back to our trip.

We had steamed way out past the Smalls lighthouse before we caught sight of our first pod of dolphins. It was a quiet encounter with only one or two being energetic enough to leave the water. Indeed this was to be the theme throughout the trip with one particular pod staying very tightly grouped and not paying us much attention at all. It was clear from the different fin sizes that this was a maternal or cresh group with many young animals making up the number.

I don't have the final count but Andy did a quick reckoning of the sheets and gave a figure of 250ish  and we saw at least one other pod after that. Soon after that we turned to the north for a few miles before slowly coming around to set course to the East and made our way back. A call in at the Smalls Lighthouse (The most westerly point of land in Wales) and with a good portion of the rocks showing all cameras on board were kept busy for ten minutes or so. Full steam ahead then to Grassholm for the wonderful sight of the Gannet colony before a hop over to Skomer for Puffins and Auks in the late afternoon sun.

A delightful day had by all with plenty of happy smiles and banter as we made our way back up the Haven and to the berth at Neyland. Kind thanks to skipper Andy and daughter Cassie for a safe and memorable trip.  Roll on the next one!!!
