It was great to get out again after an absence of some five weeks or so. I tried a morning session but the tide was well on the ebb before I arrived and I didn't hold out too much hope of seeing anything, but you never know at Strumble. I was joined by friend and local birder Chris Deighton and although no fins were seen it was good to catch up all the same.
Then to the afternoon session on the rising tide which was a different affair altogether. Within minutes of arriving I was spotting porpoise out to the NW at 2-300Mtrs. Some thirty minutes in I was joined by Fran, Cliff and Andy and we settled in for a formal survey recording sightings and photographing as many porpoise as we could. Stevo and Tony joined us as well plus a couple of interested visitors. We were soon sighting Porpoise out in front of us from the lighthouse to Mackerel Point (Pen Caer) and beyond keeping Andy busy with the record/data sheet. Sadly the light started to fail quickly which meant we spent the back end of the session just recording sightings as getting pics was too difficult in the ever dimming light conditions. A good start to the year and may it continue so.
