Strumble diary 11/07/2022

Well folks, after a spell with Covid, family commitments and a few jobs to sort out I'm back at the point. A stunning morning with flat calm seas and very warm at 7am. As is usual at this time of year with that warmth comes the dreaded heat haze the bane in the life of wildlife photographers the world over. It spoils many a good shot and in most cases renders images unusable.  Such is life though but we carry on as it's important to get what we can to support the collected data. The porps have been scarce of late and from late june up until now there's been a few blank sessions. This continues the trend of previous years where we see dips in numbers through late June into July.

Today I counted a dozen all around Strumble with five or so coming to the point and the others being well out or off to the West beyond the lighthouse. Large numbers of jellyfish starting to appear also. The animal of note today was one we've seen before named Chopper as it has veep "V" shaped cuts close to it's tail. It had a calf with it so if we didn't know it was female before, we do now.
