There's nothing quite like being at Strumble Head on a good stormy day especially if you're suffering a cold and need your head cleared. So well covered up and throwing caution to the wind (literally) I set off for the lookout. The wind from the NW was now about Gale 8 so still a good sea running in front of me. The tide race formed and things were quiet for quite a while and I wasn't sure if any porps would turn up. Not to worry though as five brave little porpoise did show and although they were only there a few minutes it made my day. For the rest of the time I had to make do with the bird life passing and that too was worth seeing so I'll pop a few images in below the porps for those of you who may like to see some of the birds we encounter while watching for fins.
I've included this un-cropped image above so you can see the bigger picture of the conditions these little porps endure on days like today.
Now for some of the birds that passed by during my session which include Arctic Skua 1, Red Throated divers 5, Scoter 9, Brent Geese 57, plus a Merlin, many Gannets including the 1st year bird below, with Auks and Kittiwakes in the high 100s.
