 Tuna Whack-A-Mole

So imagine the fairground game Whack-A-Mole, then imagine playing it blindfolded. Then multiply the playing area 50,000 times until your looking at approximately 1 Sq Mile, but instead of using a mallet you use a camera to capture the 1/2 second it takes for the mole, or Tuna in this case to breach and then dive again. Challenging, yes!  Frustrating, certainly, but I do love a challenge.

As I arrived this morning just getting my kit out of the car and I heared a splash just off the lighthouse to my left. I guessed Tuna but wasn't sure. I set up at the lookout and was settling in then saw a second splash and this time saw that it was indeed a massive BluefinTuna. There were good numbers of Commons around too and later in the session a dozen or more porpoise came in to feed. In between cetacean sightings I was also on the lookout for that elusive Tuna breach. Eyes on high alert and trigger finger poised, I tried to catch it many times, sometimes close, sometimes far but always over in a flash. Then Bingo!! Gottcha. Although not the best angle I was nonetheless delighted to get anything at all by this stage. Altogether I saw twenty breaches, perhaps made by three Tuna but it could have been two.

The commons remained distant for all of the session and I was delighted to see two marked porpoise for the project with one being a returner I've seen before.
