The tide was high late morning so things were seemingly good, that was until I left the house and saw the village and the bay shrouded in fog. Ah well I thought at least I can walk Leo if nothing else. All the way up through Stop & Call it was still there but as I crested the hill at Henner it cleared to reveal a beautiful sunny day with visibility out over the sea at about two miles. On arriving at Strumble all was calm and the ponies or National Parks lawn mowers as I call them were just waking up but providing a lovely scene as I approached the car park. With no tide race to speak of it was a waiting game and it was about thirty or so minutes before I spotted three porpoise rounding the lighthouse going with the tide. They didn't stay long and after that it was a steady batch of sightings of ones and two's over the next couple of hours.
Much later in the session as the tide race was dropping away I spotted a good number (around six) tightly grouped and travelling west. This was followed by another three groups of around eight each also moving west. A lovely sight after the low numbers over the winter months. even better was the fact that two of these groups joined up and came back into the tide race giving me an encore so to speak before I left. All in all a great session with 40+ porpoise in my estimation.
Please excuse the quality of some of the images as the porpoise were very distant at times today.
