On my approach to Strumble this morning I could see many Gannets wheeling over the first push of the tide race indicating the possibility of cetaceans below. I set up, and on my first scan accross my view I could see Common Dolphin in all directions, but with two distinct larger groups feeding vigorously a 1/4 mile apart. With a high tidal coefficient of 97 which means a fast and very strong flow the tide race soon resembled a large river in full flood. With this moving against the wind the swells were also large and very lumpy making it hard to spot and follow the dolphin as they darted around chasing prey. I relish the challenge though and it's very satisfying when you get the shots in the bag. It was very intense for an hour or so and then the tide just got too strong and pushed their prey and them off to the west. No porpoise sightings, but that was no surprise given the strenght of the tide flow.
