Strumble Diary 05/01/2025 (The Return Of Denty)

Hopeful of some good action today, either with dolphin or porpoise I headed out this morning for the rising tide. A light breeze from the WNW brought a steady swell moving accross in front of the lookout which was enhanced by the steadily increasing tide flow. Some of my favourite conditions, as this lends itself to surfing porps which I really enjoy watching and capturing. I wasn't disappointed either as the porpoise were there in good numbers and put on a great show.

I was joined for the first part of my session by Rhodri, Beth and little Snowy their dog, a lovely young couple from Lincoln who have taken a liking to North Pembs and especially the Strumble area. I met them last year and it was lovely to see them again and catch up. The survey team arrived at 11am and together we watched and recorded a good number of porpoise feeding in front of us.

Now for the good news of the day. As the title of this post suggests a long time visitor to Strumble returned today for the first time in quite a while. Of course I'm talking about "Denty" one of our most numerously sighted visitors at Strumble. Along with Denty there were a couple of other marked animals new to me and I'm sure to the ID project. So all in all a very productive and enjoyable session.  Roll on tomorrow.
