On a perfect day it takes a lot to beat Strumble Head as a location. Flat calm with blue skies and lots of sunshine. Oh! and Porpoise as well. I arrived not long after 10.am on the dropping tide. With views out to the horizon if anything were to be out there we would be able to see it. The first fingers of the tide race were pushing West at a distance but the sight of a couple of fins was welcome. As the inner tide race formed off the point the porpoise started to move in giving good views in the bright conditions.
Alongside Cliff with Maddie, Dawn and Ben of the Thursday survey team we spotted and counted as many as we could with Ben, myself and Dawn taking images for the project and Maddie dutifully recording the sightings.. The dreaded heat haze was making focus difficult at times but there was still enough images of reasonable quality to keep me happy. I'd estimate some 30-40 sightings for the session session which was curtailed at 12.00pm due to a bank of sea mist that rolled in from the West obscuring our view of the survey area.
The water was beautifully clear to see this passing seal.
