From Dr Tony Gallon: Team Sea Trust North!..

July 2017.
This report records the mammals and birds seen from the Stena Superfast X ferry to and from Holyhead and Dublin on 17th July 2017. Tony Gallon, Dave Williams, Rod Baker and David Thomas were the Sea Trust’s observers on the trip.
Conditions were good for cetacean sightings with light winds and good visibility. Table 1 below shows the details.
In  particular, Common Dolphins and Minke Whale gave excellent views. The numbers may represent actual higher numbers of cetaceans in the Irish sea during July although good viewing conditions and calm seas probably boosted the number of sightings made. In comparison with previous pelagic trips, the 17th July Pelagic can be regarded as good from the point of view that over 30 cetaceans were encountered. It was noted that “sea-weed” was quite abundant in the sea which might partially account for the greater number of cetaceans that were present.

August 2017,

This report records the mammals and birds seen from the Stena Superfast X ferry to and from Holyhead and Dublin on 14th August 2017. Tony Gallon, Dave Williams and David Thomas were the Sea Trust’s observers on the trip.
This trip encountered relatively few cetaceans which may have been due to relatively rough sea conditions.only 7 porpoises and 3 common dolphins were seen.

Sea Trust wish to thank the crew of Stena Superfast X for their help and continued support on this and previous Pelagic voyages.
