Strumble Diary 11/05/2019

The forecast ahead said 17deg and despite blue skies and a promising day when I reached Strumble just after 9am the temperature gauge in the car read 11deg but outside in the stiffening Northerly wind it was more like six. No shelter from this direction even inside the lookout. I set up and set watch and didn't have to wait long before I spotted my first porpoise. Over the next half hour or so five more followed, all individuals and none of them showing very well. What was showing well though were barrel jellyfish with a total of ten drifting past over the three hours of the session.
Things slowed a bit after that first batch and it was much later in the tide and well after the tide race had formed that more animals started coming in. A couple of pairs a mother and calf (image 5) and a group of three made up most of the number with a few more individuals passing through the race as well.
All in all a good if not very cold session with the bonus being one marked animal but let's hope tomorrow morning is a bit warmer.
