Strumble Diary 26/9/19

I arrived at about 3 pm, about  2 hours after low tide .  For the first quarter of an hour it seemed pretty dead, both bird and porpoise wise, apart from odd gannets auks and gulls.
As the tide began to make the first porpoises arrived as did Fran who had seen a large fin over to the west. The wind was blowing hard from the south west so we sat in the car watching with our binoculars.
It was like a conveyor belt, with small groups of porpoises passing through, feeding on the head of the tide. At a rough estimate probably around 40-50 with a few breaches including one small calf.
Unbeknownst to us Wdig birder and his wife Carole, had also been watching and also seen a large fin so probably a Risso's, although we failed to relocate it in the choppy sea!
