A longer session than I originally planned today. The porpoise were out in force so with plenty of action going on I decided to do the full tide over six hours. I arrived not long after low water and was pleasantly surprised to see as many porpoise as I did. The first two hours between tides is usually quite poor and I was hoping to see more dolphins. The lack of dolphins was more than made up for by our little porps.
Holly and two of the Wednesday volunteers arrived shortly after 11am and enjoyed a fruitful session. There was a quiet hour between half one and half two but as the flood tide built up and the tide race formed more porps came in to feed. Wave after wave came through with groups of four to five feeding in front of us before moving through. All in all a good session with an estimation of 12-15 animals in the early part and a good 20-30 later in the afternoon. Added bonus having a couple of marked animals for the ID Project.
