Strumble Diary 22/7/21. Porp's and Bottles

Tony Lucas and self joined Fran and the Sea Trust  Thursday vol's at Strumble just before they were packing up. After the lack of porpoises in recent weeks it seems normal service has resumed and even though it was almost low tide they had been getting porpoises throughout the watch.

Surprisingly and at about a mile away a pod of (at least six possibly ten including at least one calf) Bottlenose  Dolphins seemed to be feeding out about a mile to the north for at least 2 hours.

The vols went back but Tony and I watched them until around 14.45 when they were still present but we had to leave.

Although Cardigan Bay is famous for its Bottlenose Dolphins they are rarely seen south of Fishguard. Those that are seen are usually just passing by so this was a little bit unusual for them to hang about!
