Strumble diary 12/03/2022 Part 2 (Ken's survey.)

I arrived at Strumble shortly after 10am on a beautiful sunny morning. As mentioned by Cliff in the previous post there was very little tide flow on one of the smallest tides of the month. Several distant porpoise milling around though cheered me up. Out to the west around thirty Gannets wheeling and diving hinted at some far out action. Too distant to tell what was underneath them but I suspected Common Dolphin. The porpoise action seemed to be off the point so I made the decision to up sticks and head over there. Ten minutes later I was in position and happily snapping away as several porpoise foraged below me.

More gannets now to the north about half a mile and this time it was common dolphin that were below them. I guess some of those from off to the west had broken away and moved east. The numbers increased as more and more joined them and I would guess around 60-80 in total. They soon headed back west leaving me to continue with my porpoise survey.  I would estimate 12-15 passed close in with some more further out. All in all a good session with a few marked animals one of which I have definitely not seen before.
