As Autumn draws on the days shorten and the light can be very hit and miss. Today was sort of in between being rather flat making it hard to spot grey fins in a grey sea with grey clouds above. Most of the survey team (myself included) struggled to follow a small group of Risso's that were at first distant and then moved close in. I think by the end of the survey though everyone got a view judging by the cheerful comments coming from my left as I was sat at the far (East) end of the lookout. A fifteen to twenty minute reward for the three hours previous where I had seen nothing by way of fins at all. Such is the nature of photographing wildlife but seeing these wonderful creatures keeps me coming back again and again.
Here's a few of the images captured as they came closer and a short video clip as a bonus. Appologies for the slightly jumpy nature of it. Wind I'm afraid. No! Not mine 😏
Also sorry for the poor quality. The Youtube algorythms have all but wrecked it.
Distractions of the Day
Two little side shows provided by this beautiful little Wheatear and a Blackback Gull feeding on an octopus and being harassed by other gulls. He won in the end though.
