Fishguard Bay Porpoises and Andy scores at Strumble.

A late afternoon visit to the outer breakwater and at first a numerous Gannets were obvious off Crin Coed point, patrolling a line running parallel with the breakwater from the point. The prevailing wind from the west was chopping up the sea beyond that line and a big flock of feeding gulls and gannets were barely visible in the poor light.

I suspected the big pod of Common Dolphins might also be feeding out there but with the chop and the poor visibility they would have been all but invisible. It was pretty frustrating there had to be cetaceans out there but I could not see them. Inside Crin Coid and off the breakwater was almost flat calm and I noticed some of the Gannets were moving inshore.

To my surprise a Porpoise popped up quite close, just beyond the Cow and Calf Rocks moving closer and heading towards the harbour entrance. Usually when this happens the porpoise continues and begins feeding in the harbour mouth but this one turned back and began foraging around the Cow and Calf's, something I have never seen before  More Gannets began to move in and we spotted about half a dozen between the Cow and Calf's and Crin Coid!

Sea Trust volunteer Andy Wise stopped off at Strumble and connected again with the hundred plus Common Dolphins that seem to have been resident here recently.
