Well today felt more like Autumn at Strumble. An early morning start and straight into the teeth of a good northerly blow. Temperature on route said 13deg, but stood in front of the lookout under a blanket of cloud it felt more like 8deg. There was a good swell running straight in parallel to the coast which made sightings difficult.
When the tide race got into full swing the sea got very lumpy and only increased the difficulty in spotting the porpoise and common dolphin which had by this time come in to feed. I watched several small groups of commons for nearly two hours as well as perhaps 15 porpoise and came away with only a few record shots of their presence. If I were to try and describe the frustration of it all I'd say it was like playing Whack-A-Mole with your arm in plaster. They were popping up all over the place but impossible to track.
All in all a very busy, enjoyable, if not frustrating session.
The happy little seal at the end was taken off the breakwater two days ago.
