The forecast promised a sunny day but early on a blanket of low cloud kept an almost dusk like light over Strumble and the surrounding area. I did my best with the available light as a pod of commons came in and started to feed in the tide race. At one stage several of them were in a tight group which gave a good opportunity for a short video clip, see below. The cloud cover seemed to take ages to move and burn off so it was well into the morning before any decent sunshine arrived. As I was scanning around my eye was taken by a splash well off to the west about a mile or so. Closer look showed it to be a small pod of Rissos getting livelyand making me reach for the camera. To give an idea of the distance I've included an un-cropped image. This was still at a magnification of 800mm, (35mm equivelent) so as you can imagine was barely visible to the naked eye. Had there been any larger waves or poorer visibility I would probably have not seen this happen.
Later as the tide race got underway a few porpoise came in to feed with two of them being marked animals one of which I'm sure is "Front Nick" a returning porpoise already in our catalogue. If you take a close look at it's dosal fin you'll see how it's name came about.
Again I've had issues getting the video embedded in this post so please follow this link
