A glorious morning for the start of my full day session covering the rising and falling tides. The only spoiler was the SE'ly wind keeping the air chilled first thing. No dolphins at the start as in the previous week but as the tide race formed a good few porpoise moved in. Joined by fellow volunteer Andy Wise we estimated around twenty porpoise over an hour and a half coming to the top of the tide.
By this time the Monday survey team had arrived and there were still several porpoise milling around but distant in what was left of the tide race from the rising tide. Several common dolphin were spotted NW of the lighthouse and they stopped to feed for ten minutes or so before moving off to the west. We continued seeing porpoise right through their survey up until they finished around 13.30. I stayed later for the dropping tide and over the next two hours recorded seven to ten porpoise moving through the tide race.
