Strumble Diary 20/05/2024

An early start this morning to get the best of the dropping tide before the excitement of the ITV filming during the 11am-1pm survey (see previous post). The tide race hadn't quite started so I spent the first twenty minutes or so taking in the warmth of the sun on a beautiful morning looking over a calm sea. The first porpoise came into view off to the North and then followed a steady stream increasing as the tide race got going. I would estimate a good thirty or so porpoise throughout the early morning all feeding well in the tide race and beyond. Another marked animal today (highlighted below) with a large fresh scar running from just behind the blow hole toward the dorsal fin. Curious as to how that one happened.

Around 10.30am the action died down as the porps moved west beyond the lighthouse but thankfully stayed around for the survey team and the TV cameras.  Enjoy!!
