Mola Mola and Breakwater Bottles. 22/08/2024

Just a mention of Tuesday's survey at Strumble. A keen Westerly blowing but a bright day with some large swells increasing as the tide dropped away. The porpoise were there but it was one of those frustrating sessions where they would come up for one breath and then dive again. An almost impossible task to get images and both myself and the survey team with two cameras failed to get a single shot. However, we did see an Ocean Sunfish (Mola Mola) being carried along by the tide and bobbing around in the swells. This is the time of year for them so keep an eye out if you're out on the coast.

On to today then the 22nd Aug and a notification of bottlenose at the breakwater from Holly and I was off. I had a couple of things to attend to so I was a bit after the first call getting there. At first I thought I had missed them as they were nowhere to be seen. Then way off out in the direction of Dinas Hd I saw two leaping well out of the water. Thankfully they came in closer and gave me a good thirty minutes or so of vigorous feeding before moving off accross the bay toward the caravan park. There were five in total, all of which had been seen before including the one with the deformity on it's face. Enjoy!!
