Strumble Diary 03/03-2025

What a beautiful morning at Strumble today. I fancied a change of angle today so I got lower/closer to the water for a different viewpoint. It works well in calmer conditions and I like the change of perspective it gives. Still on very big tides at present so you have to take what you get and hope the porpoise come in to feed. I had several sightings in the tide race and thought there may have been six or so animals in total. However! When I processed the images it turned out to be three with one of them being a lens hogger trying to out do the others. I didn't mind though as it was a distinctly marked animal and new to the catalogue. Another porpoise I captured (with spot on right flank. Third image down) I had photographed yesterday so will I hope count as a returner. At the end of my session when the action had ceased I turned my binos to the area beyond the lighthouse where they normally end up and counted ten porpoises well spread out happily feeding under some attentive Gannets. Fran and the survey team were at Ramsey sound and reportedly had not seen any, so I'm happy that I did at least.

A stunning little Merlin paid several visits to the cliffs off to my right so naturally he attracted my attention and became my feathered "Star of the day". Pics below.
