On the afternoon of the Wednesday 3rd I had a couple of hours to spare later in the afternoon so I headed to Strumble to catch the latter part of the rising tide. A very weak tide race formed and some porpoise did come in to feed. Mostly distant and with a couple of mother/calf pairings seen. The action didn't last very long as the already weak tide race soon dropped away and the porpoise moved on.
Morning of Thursday 4th September.
On arrival it looked promising as there were thousands of birds flock feeding close in with the tide race starting to form. Looks as they say can be deceiving though, as I didn't see a single Porpoise for the whole session. I was there from 08.30 until just before 10.00 by which time the tide race was already weakening. There were though several Common Dolphin moving through the tide race for all of that time, most very stealthily with one or two thankfully being more active. This could have had a bearing on the no show of porpoise. I decide to give the breakwater a go in hopes of seeing Bottlenose perhaps.

The birds were climbing all over themselves off the point. |
From the breakwater there were no dolphins present at that time although I spent a good hour there in hopes. A lovely Ringed Plover came close so that made it worthwhile for my camera at least.
Did you spot the seal in the headline image?
