Swansea, Swine Sea ,Puffing Pigs, please let us know!

Hi Cliff
Following on from Stephen John’s post regarding harbour porpoise in Swansea. We certainly do have them here and right across Swansea Bay and the Gower coast. As you know, for the past 2.5 years, myself and colleagues at Swansea Metropolitan UWTSD have been undertaking a research project on the distribution, behaviour and habitat use of harbour porpoise in this area. We are working as part of the Low Carbon Research Institute Marine project.

Our research includes land-based and vessel-based surveys and we regularly record porpoise presence across Swansea Bay, including off Swansea Beach and Mumbles and of course, right around the Gower coast. Stephen is welcome to find out more and help look for porpoise at  two of my free public events this summer – Porpoise Picnics on 28th July and 3rd August (email info@oakleyintertidal.co.uk for more info).

If anyone else has any incidental records from Port Talbot, Swansea or Gower, please forward them to me. (AND TO US AS WELL AT WinW PLEASE! cliff)

With best regards
Judith
