Perplexing porpoise mutilations and Risso's...

In the past few months Ken and I have photographed hundreds of porpoises. Today I was rubbish but thankfully despite the difficulties we had in getting shots in the heavy tide race, exacerbated by strong westerly's  Ken was on the ball! And so he shot a another animal with a mutilated fin. Three this week as against none before,  which is quite concerning. How and by what are they being damaged? Another more pleasant surprise was a mother and small calf pair of Risso's seen only very briefly, no pic's.
