Part 1 was written and posted from the Truckers Lounge on Stena Europe while we were tied up in Rosslare. With the new timetable we don't have time to go ashore for Guinness and food and the Stenna Europe crew are so busy hoovering and cleaning we have to keep out of the way. It was heartening to get many positive comments from the catering staff about our dolphin work. They occasionally spot the resident bottlenose dolphin through the window and we were even shown a photo of this dolphin with a calf inside the harbour. When we got back to the bridge for the return journey we searched for this bottlenose but no sign of it.
The evening crossing was far more productive than the afternoon with 5 separate encounters with common dolphins totaling 97 individuals many with juveniles and a group of 4 porpoise. Our final pod of 20 was a couple of miles short of Strumble at 8.33 pm with the light fading. We called it a day shortly after.
