Strumble Diary 13/02/2020

My first outing this month grabbing a few days between decorating and the impending arrival of the grandchildren for half term. Strumble was cold and windy with a strong NW wind with large swells sending lots of spray over the lookout. My timing wasn't great arriving just an hour or so before high tide and with the tide race starting to melt away. Enough movement though to attract a few porpoise in and over that hour or so I captured what I could in camera. There were longish pauses between sightings which meant that they were feeding deep which is normal for this time of year as there isn't many pelagic species such as mackerel or herring about. Sadly the other mentionable sighting was a plastic basket no doubt from a fishing boat, that was drifting in the currents. So annoying given all the publicity over the harm plastics in the seas can cause.
