An 8.15am start at the top of the tide with a northerly wind mixing up what was left of the tide race made for quite a confused sea overall. A few distant porpoise well up the tide race and out of camera range were all that was showing at that time. Over the next 40 mins or so several small strings of Commons passed west to east but at least it was something of interest to keep my eyes peeled. An hour in and as I was looking around a very visible bow wave of something large caught my eye some 200mtrs beyond Mackerel point. Only one thing could make a wave like that and before I knew it four Risso's were speeding into view. Now normally our Risso's sightings are quite leisurely affairs as thay make their way accross our view. Not this bunch though. They were on a mission and over what seemed a very short 3-4mins they had passed and were speeding past the lighthouse. Thankfully the new kit and my shutter finger were up to the task and although the surfacings were brief I managed to capture some decent shots that I'm well pleased with and I hope you will be too. Throughout the four hour session several distant porpoises were spotted but none came close at all but at least they were there. Enjoy the pics.
