Breakwater Bottlenose 13/09/2022

A strong north wind at Strumble so I decided to have a look at the estuaries for bird life. On my return to Goodwick I parked up on the seafront and scanned the bay for whatever I might see. Looking toward the outer breakwater I saw fins which I thought were common dolphin. Worth a closer look I thought so I made my way to the breakwater and to my delight they were Bottlenose. Five adults and at least four juveniles. The adults had placed the youngsters inside the bay to play while they foraged in the harbour mouth. They were well spread out so getting images was a challenge. I dont know how long they had been there, but after ten minutes or so they gathered up the young ones and moved off toward Dinas Hd. A brief but welcome encounter and my first connection with them this season so far.
