Strumble Diary 17/09/2024

A stunning and warm morning at Strumble today. Very calm with excellent viz. First sighting was a pod of very distant common dolphin off to the NE. Closer but still a 1/2 mile beyond mackerel point were several porpoise well spread over the Strumble Bank area. Things were quiet after that for a while until I spotted Rissos dolphins off to the WNW. Five in all but the sightings were brief and sadly none came close. Will they stay around? That remains to be seen. The Tuesday survey team arrived as usual and we were sighting several porpoise off Mackerel point and beyond. I left early but the team spotted more porpoise and commons after I departed.
