We are back on more reasonable tides now after the very high tides of the past week or so. With the easterly winds keeping things on the chilly side I settled in for a morning watch on a rising tide. Things were very slow at the start but at least it was dry and sunny. I was joined by new volunteer Harry, who I think likes Strumble as much as I do. It turns out he's an excellent spotter and put me onto several of the porpoise we saw today. Andy Wise also popped in for a while and three eyes on the water is always a bonus. We had a few two's and three's and some singles as well and I'd guess some 10-15 in total.
It's the first time I've had a good number of porps on a survey since I've had a new longer lens so I was pleased to test the longer reach and achieve some very pleasing results. One Porpoise had a nick in the fin and others presented well showing the mottling on their flanks which is good for ID purposes. A first for me today was seeing a full breach of a Blue Fin Tuna about half a mile beyond Mackrel Point toward Cemaes Hd. We've seen the splashes of them surfacing before but not a full breach.
